As the reality of climbing on board a plane heading to Melbourne to visit the two big retail gift and homewares trade shows in the wee, dark hours of tomorrow morning sink in, my head cold, watery eyes and general state of puffiness taunt me. However, as your dutiful buyer and leader of this starship, I pledge to drag myself on my knees if necessary, through the kilometres and kilometres of mediocre, Chinese exports, in order to find the modest supernovas that will go on to become our gift, homewares, fashion and accessories, Christmas stock 2010. Throughout this journey you will not be far from my thoughts. I hope to carry out my mission to the best of my ability and on completion dazzle you with an amazing online array of design focused products unlike any other shopping destination. As David Clark, Editor of Vogue Living says in his editor's letter in the July/August edition, a 'modest' design focus "could be the catchcry of the 21st century."
